Proposal photography in Warsaw: two tried and tested ways to plan it

We always start with a short consultation to decide how you want to play it. Either your partner only knows you have booked a photoshoot, or you both know the proposal is happening that day but not the details. Or it is a complete surprise and I stay out of sight until the big moment. These are the two most common options.

Option 1

The "photoshoot" cover story

  • 1You tell your partner you have booked a couple photoshoot together.
  • 2We agree on the plan by email, WhatsApp or Instagram: where we meet and the exact moment you want to propose.
  • 3We meet at the agreed time. First a few minutes of a normal session so you both get used to the camera, then you propose in the spot we chose. I am right there the whole time, with the light and background already set, so the photos look like a film still.
  • 4After the proposal you get a moment to catch your breath, then we carry on with the session: close-ups of the ring and classic couple shots.
  • 5I know you will want to tell everyone straight away, so the same day I send you one fully edited photo.
Option 2

Paparazzi style, a complete surprise

  • 1We agree on the plan by email, WhatsApp or Instagram, including the exact time and place of the proposal.
  • 2On the day, you message me what you are both wearing so I can recognise you, even from a distance.
  • 3I let you know when I am in position, so you can be sure the moment will be captured.
  • 4When you go down on one knee, I step out of hiding and start shooting.
  • 5Right after the proposal you get a moment to take it all in, then we do ring close-ups and a few classic couple shots.
  • 6The same day you already have one finished, edited photo to share with family and friends before they even see the ring in person.

We walk more than we pose.

"An engagement photoshoot should feel like an afternoon out in the city together, except someone happened to photograph it."

My name is Tomek. I have been photographing couples in Warsaw since 2018, and in that time I have learned one thing: the photos you come back to years later are rarely posed. They happen when you forget, for a moment, that I am there at all.

I want photos that could not belong to just any couple. I want to show your relationship as it really is. That is why we walk more than we pose. If one of you feels unsure in front of the camera, I guide you step by step, and I have a folder of inspiration we can look through together.

  • Gentle direction. If you do not know how to stand, I have a folder of ready-made inspiration.
  • I know Warsaw at every time of day. I know where the best light falls and when each place is empty, which matters a lot for a proposal.
  • Retouching in 5 days, counted from the moment you pick your favourite shots in the gallery.
  • Discretion on request. I never publish photos without your consent. Full privacy is the standard, not the exception.
  • No travel fee within Warsaw. The package price is the final price.
  • Plan B for rain. We reschedule at no cost or move to the studio in Praga or Targówek.

You both look like yourselves, not like a couple from a catalogue.

Couples do not choose me because I am the cheapest or the most expensive. For most of them an engagement photoshoot is the only professional session before the wedding, so I work in a way that lets you recognise yourselves in the photos, not poses copied from the internet.

I photograph in English, Polish and Chinese, for international couples, mixed couples and couples with family abroad.

Planning the wedding too? Read about wedding photography in Warsaw. For many couples an engagement session is a good way to get to know me before the big day.

I know each of these spots at different times of day and year.

Saska Kępa

Cafés on Francuska Street, courtyards, cobblestones and greenery between old townhouses. It works best in the afternoon, when the cafés are full but the side streets are not. For couples who want something between the city and everyday life, Saska Kępa gives exactly that. From early afternoon the light slants between the buildings and turns soft long before sunset.

Praga Północ

Murals on Targowa Street, red brick, old gateways, the Koneser complex. For couples who do not want a park or a fountain. Praga has a character of its own, industrial but not cold, and it looks different in photos from anywhere else in Warsaw. I bring couples here who know what they do not want but are not yet sure what they do want.

Łazienki Park

Early afternoon, before the park fills up with tourists. The light comes through the trees at an angle, shadows are long and the paths are almost empty. At peak hours the same place looks like every other photo of Łazienki. At two o'clock on a weekday it looks like something else entirely.

Old Town

The Market Square, colourful townhouses, narrow lanes and the city walls. Even when it is busy I can find a quiet corner and frame the shot so there are no random tourists in the background. It works best early in the morning or in the side streets away from the main route.

Vistula boulevards

The river, the bridges, open space. They work in every season but look best at golden hour. An hour before sunset the river catches warm light and reflects it onto your faces. For couples who do not want to stay in one spot, the boulevards give plenty of room and naturally invite a walk.

Makeup and hair

Want professional makeup and hair for the session? I also offer a photoshoot with hair and makeup in Warsaw, with a makeup artist and stylist in one place and one booking.

The best shots happen once nobody is posing any more.

  • Saska Kępa: the couple who "couldn't pose"They arrived convinced they could not pose. In the car he was already warning me he would be as stiff as a board. After twenty minutes of wandering between the cafés on Francuska Street they forgot they were at a photoshoot at all. Their favourite photo, where she is laughing into his ear at a pedestrian crossing, was taken between shots.
  • Praga Północ: a session without the classicsThey wanted to avoid anything that felt like a classic engagement shoot. We took photos by a mural on Targowa Street and in a courtyard near Koneser. Their favourite came out by an old gateway they would normally have walked past without a second look.
  • Łazienki: a park all to themselvesThey were not fans of crowds, so we met on a weekday. Afterwards they said it felt like they had the whole park to themselves, and you can see it in every photo.
  • A rooftop in the city centre: from fear to panoramaThey really wanted a view over the city. The session started with one of them being afraid of heights and ended with neither of them wanting to come down.
  • Browary Warszawskie: more than colleaguesA couple worried they would look like office colleagues in the photos, not an engaged couple. For the first half hour it was a bit like that. Then he told the story of their first date, and that story gave us the best photo of the whole session.

Reviews

I was probably more scared of this session than of my master's exam. Karol and I are both the kind of people who look in photos like we have just heard bad news. For the first half hour Tomek did not photograph us at all. We talked and walked around Łazienki, and every now and then he took a picture. When I saw the gallery, I could not believe it was us.

Basia Wróblewska

We chose Tomek because the photos on his website look like film stills, not photoshoot pictures. At our meeting he explained where and why he wanted to photograph us and what light each time of day would give. It was a level of planning I did not expect. We got the gallery sooner than we thought.

Rafał Sosnowski

For me the engagement session was an excuse to check whether we wanted Tomek for the wedding at all. After seeing the outdoor photos we booked him for the wedding that same evening. He knows Warsaw by heart and knows where to place a couple so the background is the city, not a crowd of tourists.
