For brand-new parents

Newborn photoshoot in Warsaw: I don't just photograph newborns, I photograph the moment you become a family.

Parents often tell me they remember the first weeks through a haze. Happiness mixed with exhaustion and a touch of panic. Nobody tells you beforehand how tiny this little person will be. How fragile. How completely yours.

My approach

How I photograph newborns in Warsaw

I don't do catalogue-style shots of babies in baskets. I photograph parents looking at their child. A dad who doesn't know where to put his hands, yet holds them as if nothing else in the world mattered. A mum who is more tired than ever, and at the same time has never looked more beautiful.

I work with natural light, with no flash and no script. When a room is too dark, I add soft continuous light that doesn't bother the baby. The newborn sets the pace. Feeding, napping, waking up: it's all part of the session, not an interruption.

If you're also planning a maternity photoshoot, we can plan both dates together as one coherent story.

Perspective

In my photos, there's room for dad

At many newborn sessions, dad stands on the sidelines, handing over nappies, holding the bag and waiting. I invite him into the frame from the start, because these first weeks are his story too.

Over the years I've seen many men holding their own child for the first time. They're terrified, because the baby seems so fragile. And at the same time they're happier than ever before. That's why there's a lot of dad in my photos. Not because there should be, but because I know where to look.

Dads feel more at ease with me. They don't have to pretend they know how to pose. It's enough that they're there.

I speak English, Polish and Chinese. If you're new to Warsaw or one of you doesn't speak Polish, the session will run smoothly without any misunderstandings.

Comfort and safety

Your baby's safety during the session

No photo is worth your baby's discomfort. The studio is warmed up before you arrive. If your little one is unsettled, we wait. If they want to eat, we take a break. The session is built around the baby, not the other way round.

I don't use poses where the baby supports the weight of their own head or hangs in props. I only settle the baby in positions they take naturally, and I never force their arms or legs into place. One parent is always right beside us whenever the baby is moved, and the baby always lies low on a soft, stable surface. I wash my hands before the session and I never work when I have a cold.

Best timing

Why the first 14 days

In my experience, three things usually change after the first two weeks, and they affect what kind of photos are possible. Every baby is different, so treat this as a guide, not a rule:

  1. 1

    Sleep gets lighter.

In the first days many newborns sleep deeply enough to stay calm when gently repositioned, always with a parent helping. Over time they wake up more often when touched.
  2. 2

    Newborns gradually uncurl.

In the first days babies often settle on their own the way they lay in the womb, with legs tucked in and hands by their face. With every week this happens less often.
  3. 3

    Some babies develop colic.

Not every baby gets it and it starts at a different time for each one, but if it appears, the session can be harder. Colic itself is best discussed with your paediatrician.

It's best to book while you're still pregnant. We set a provisional date, and once your baby arrives, we confirm it.

Preparation

What to bring to a newborn session

  • Milk for the baby, at least three feeds
  • Spare nappies, around six to eight
  • A dummy, even if you rarely use one
  • Baby skin cream
  • Any outfits you'd like to see your baby in. The studio has its own wraps and accessories
  • For parents: neutral colours, no big prints

A newborn photoshoot is a time for you too. You don't need a ready plan, I guide you through the whole thing.

Parents' reviews

What parents say after the session

We arrived sleep-deprived and a bit shaky. Tomek was calmer than the two of us put together. Our daughter slept through almost the whole session, and we got the photos after four days. I felt that someone had just frozen the most important moment of our lives.

Joanna S., project manager, Warsaw

I booked a newborn session as a surprise for my wife. I didn't know what to expect, but Tomek made us both feel at ease straight away. There are lots of photos of me with our son, which I didn't expect and which turned out to matter most. We're coming back for the christening too.

Bartłomiej K., civil engineer, Wola

We booked a newborn session with Tomek a month before my due date. He was easy to talk to in English, which made the whole thing far less stressful for me. We got the photos after five days and they're exactly what we wanted: calm, natural, with no props that look straight out of a catalogue.

Sarah M., marketing manager, Mokotów

Other options

Baby photoshoot in Warsaw

A newborn session isn't the only option for a little one. A baby session, when your child is three to six months old and can already sit with support, smiles and responds to your voice, gives you completely different photos. Different, not worse.

Many families choose a family session with their baby a few months in, when everyone is getting a bit more sleep. It's a good time for your first photos together, as the little one starts responding to faces and smiles. You'll find more about this option on the family photoshoot page.

Booking

How to book a newborn photoshoot in Warsaw

All it takes is a short message with your due date and whether you prefer the studio or your home. We'll set a provisional date, so you can wait for the birth without worrying. Before the session we also talk about what you want from it, before the chaos of the first weeks kicks in.

Newborn photography in Warsaw has its busy season, with September and January at the peak. It's best not to leave booking until the last minute.

If you're also planning christening photos, we can plan everything as one project right away: newborn session, christening and family session. That way you get a consistent set of photos from the first months of your baby's life.
