The best shots happen once you stop thinking about the camera. I guide you with conversation, movement and small cues, and catch the photos in between the takes.

Why outdoor shots look natural

The outdoors never looks the same twice. The light shifts with every minute, the wind moves your hair, and Warsaw becomes a real backdrop instead of a stage set. That's why every photo comes out different.

In open space it's easier to be yourself. A walk loosens you up, gestures, laughter and spontaneous moments appear, and the shots recall a specific day rather than a set-up.

Who an outdoor photoshoot in Warsaw is for

The outdoors works well for people who feel uneasy in a closed studio and need space to relax. Most often I photograph outside:

couples who want photos full of emotion rather than forced poses
families with children, for whom movement and play are essential (see also the family photoshoot)
solo clients who need a portrait for work, networking or just for themselves
friends and siblings who want a shared shot after years

Outdoors is my specialty

Since 2018 the majority of my work has been outdoor photoshoots. I've photographed hundreds of people in parks, by the Vistula, on the streets of Warsaw, in forests and meadows, so I know how to use the light in almost any conditions.

It's not an add-on next to the studio, it's my main job. I go into a shoot with a ready plan for the place, the route and the light, so we don't waste time hunting for a frame, and after hundreds of shoots I also know when specific spots in the city are almost empty.

What the shoot looks like step by step

First I get to know you, and only then do I choose the place, time, light and shooting approach for the specific person. The whole thing has a few stages:

  1. A pre-shoot chat - the purpose of the photos, the mood and your concerns.
  2. Choosing the location and time to suit the light.
  3. A walk that loosens you up.
  4. Short cues on what to do with your hands and where to look.
  5. Selecting your favourite photos from the online gallery.
  6. Hand-editing the chosen shots.

With children I don't fight over posing - bubbles, a blanket and play do the work. I use the same attentiveness in individual portraits.

Light and weather

Light is often more important than the location. Most often I schedule for golden hour, about an hour and a half before sunset, because it gives warm, soft light. An overcast sky often makes for more beautiful portraits than full sun, because the clouds scatter shadows and even out the face.

Rain doesn't have to mean cancelling: we wait for a weather window, take quick shots under cover, or reschedule at no extra charge. Choosing the time and responding to the weather is my job, not your worry.

An outdoor photoshoot in every season

Every season in Warsaw gives the photos a different feel:

spring - blossoming orchards, fresh greenery, soft light
summer - lush vegetation, sunflowers and long evenings
autumn - golden and red leaves, soft, warm sun
winter - snow, frost and a low sun casting long shadows
golden hour - the warmest light, about an hour and a half before sunset
overcast days - even, soft light ideal for portraits
rain - reflections, umbrellas and an intimate mood under cover

Locations for an outdoor photoshoot in Warsaw

I have a list of tried-and-tested spots, but I'm happy to go wherever your story is. Most often I photograph here:

Royal Łazienki Park and the Botanical Garden in Powsin - elegant: greenery, water, architecture.
the boulevards and wild beaches along the Vistula - romantic: open space and sunset light.
industrial Praga with its red brick - raw: brick and a strong mood.
Pole Mokotowskie and Skaryszewski Park - lifestyle: grasses and paths close to the centre.
Kampinos Forest and the fields outside the city - quiet and nature: woods, dunes, calm.
heathlands and fruit orchards in season - colourful: a frame you can't fake in a studio.

I also shoot dynamic, action shots if you want something sporty (sports photographer).

Things vary: one shoot was meant to be in a park, but it started raining, so we took shelter under a bridge over the Vistula and that's where the clients' favourite shots were made.

How I choose the location

I don't choose a place because it's trendy. First I get to know you, and only then do I match the location to your character, your clothes, the season and the light. The place should suit you, not the other way round.

If you don't have an idea, I'll suggest a ready direction:

  • you love nature - Kampinos or the banks of the Vistula
  • you prefer modern architecture - Rondo Daszyńskiego and Wola
  • you want a romantic feel - the Vistula at sunset or blossoming orchards
  • you prefer a raw, industrial character - Praga and old halls

If you'd rather, I'll prepare 3-5 suggestions matched to the mood, season, light, number of people and travel.

Before we meet

The shoot begins long before the shutter is pressed. Before we head out, we settle the details together:

  • a short phone call about what you want
  • help with choosing clothes
  • location suggestions to match your mood
  • tips on makeup and hairstyling
  • planning the start time around the best light

This way, on the day of the shoot we simply go and take photos, with no stress and no surprises.

How to prepare

It's normal for a first shoot to feel nerve-racking. Most of my clients have never stood in front of a camera before. A few things will make our work easier:

  1. Clothes in a calm, cohesive palette, without large lettering.
  2. Outfits matched to the place: muted colours for nature, stronger textures for Praga.
  3. Comfortable shoes, as the walk usually lasts up to two hours.
  4. Extra time for travel, so you don't start in a rush.
  5. Let me know what you need the photos for: print, the web or a dating profile (photos for dating apps).

If you don't know how to pose

95% of my clients say before the shoot that they can't pose. That's normal and it's not a problem at all. I don't leave you alone in front of the camera.

I guide you through the whole shoot, telling you plainly where to stand, what to do with your hands and when to look into the lens. Most of the best shots happen when you forget someone is photographing you.

What you get and how the editing works

An outdoor photoshoot in Warsaw lasts from one hour to several hours depending on the package, and usually covers one or two locations.

After the shoot you get a private online gallery and pick your favourite shots. I edit each one by hand, matching the colour and contrast to the daylight, but I don't smooth faces into plastic. That's how I understand outdoor photography: a cohesive, natural set.

The gallery is ready in 4-5 business days, in a form ready for portfolios, social media, print, your website and gifts. I also photograph pregnant women outdoors (maternity photoshoot).

Common concerns and questions

I'm afraid of the camera. After a few minutes most people forget about it.

What if it rains? We wait for a weather window or reschedule at no extra charge.

What should I wear? I'll advise specifically once I know the place and the time.

Will the children manage? Yes, I turn the shoot into play and never push.

My partner doesn't like photos? That's common, which is why I shoot in movement and during conversation.

Reviews

"I was afraid of this shoot, because I always freeze up in photos and never knew how to pose. Tomek picked the perfect spot on Pole Mokotowskie, an hour before sunset, and talked me through the whole shoot, so I relaxed quickly. I got the photos in four days and put half of them straight on my professional profile."

Pelagia Sznajder, sworn translator

"I went into it half-heartedly, afraid it would come out stiff like a catalogue. We headed into Kampinos in the late afternoon, Tom had me move rather than pose and helped me relax without any tension. The best shots came about when I couldn't feel anyone photographing me at all."

Cyprian Wesołowski, paramedic

"A family shoot by the Vistula with a two-year-old, in theory a recipe for disaster. The little one was grumbling, and Tomek, without any stress, pulled out a blanket and turned it into play, so the photos are truly ours rather than staged. He picked a spot ideal for a child, and the gallery was ready sooner than we'd agreed."

Żaneta and Bonawentura Kaleccy, both teachers

If you're planning photos together before the wedding, check out the engagement photoshoot too.

Time for your photos

An outdoor photoshoot in Warsaw doesn't have to be stressful or stiff. All it takes is good light, a bit of movement and someone to guide you through the whole meeting. The rest shows in the photos.
